Child and adult fantasy
Good time of the day, dear visitors of my website!
My 3rd selection of books begins with “Clock mages” by Natalya Schsherba (Teenage Fantasy). It is also a 6- piece fantasy book series which I mostly recommend to teens and kids, because I finished reading it at 15 and personally, it gave me everything I needed from a fantasy series at that time. Therefore, if you prefer older characters and older target audience, you are welcome to visit my previous selection!
Vasilisa is an ordinary Earth girl living with her grandmother when she unexpectedly learns that her father is an influential mage of Eflaria, a world built on a special clock magic. When she arrives in the land of clockwork mages, fairies, and beasts, Vasilisa finds herself at the center of a dangerous game. Even her friends cannot figure out who she really is: a clumsy girl who knows nothing about her origins? A spy sent by her father to seize the throne? Or a powerful timekeeper who can control time and save Earth and Eflaria from an impending clash?
First advantage to mention is a big variety of “clock” things that were created and used pragmatically to manage the appearing problems.
Second one is that the relationship between the main character and her “like” (not love because they are just 13) interest is very accurate to their age. The child’s innocence is felt through their talks and interaction, the author does not make them act like grownups.
Therefore, I rate “Clock mages” as 8.5/10.
The seventh book in the photo is written by the same author — Natalya Schsherba, named «Enchanted land, the bracelet» (orig.Charodol) for grown “Clock mages” readers. I only own the first book from the trilogy due to the fact that I couldn’t find the second and third books in my city, although I tried to purchase them for 3 months.
A young girl named Tanya inherits a magical bracelet from her great-grandmother, whom she has never met. Upon learning about the inheritance, Tanya expected anything but a bracelet that bestows magical power. Once the bracelet comes into her possession, her life becomes filled with strange and seemingly random events. However, it is through the bracelet that she will gain the power to save her native Carpathians, enter the domain of the Enchanted Prince of Charodoll, and receive a quest to find the way into the magical world of Enchanted Land. (Charodol)
A year later the clock mages I read this book and was quite amused. The plot and the general setting seemed unusually attractive to me. There is a lot of romance, which was interestingly developed and it strengthened my desire to find the continuation for all those 3 months.
However, the main Tanya`s behavior is too childish at times, even though she is 20 years old, which is not a teen age, she is a fully grown adult. Therefore, sometimes her thoughtless actions made me wonder If she is actually 20, or if it was a typo.
Overall, I give the “Charodol Bracelet” a 6/10.
